Distribution
North Island: Auckland, Kaukapakapa (Stoney Creek Forest, Dye Access Road).
Native to Eastern Australia, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia.
Habitat
Known from wet places in rainforest overseas.
In New Zealand it is known from three sites, it inhabits the edge of a shaded creek at one site and at the other two sites this sedge is found under mature pines (Pinus radiata).

Easily recognised by the green spiklets.
Etymology
carex: Latin name for a species of sedge, now applied to the whole group.
maculata: From Latin ‘macula’ blotch, meaning blotchy
